Friday, April 4
Ladera Vista will be dropping of class information and seventh grade registration forms on Monday, March 31. These forms need to be completed and returned to school by Friday, April 4. The principal and counselors from LV will be reviewing these forms with the 6th graders during the day on 4/4.
Tuesday, April 8
The date and time have been confirmed for our 6th grade outdoor science parent information night. Irvine Ranch Camp directors will be at Acacia on Tuesday, April 8 at 5:30. This forty-five minute meeting will take place in the MPR. Parents and students can attend. We will review the medical and registration documents for camp and have camp directors available to answer any questions you may have about the site or the program. Attendance is not required. Forms will be sent home the following day for parents that do not attend the meeting.
Thursday, April 10
Our class will participate in the Fullerton School District Tea and Technology Showcase. This event will take place at Ladera Vista from 3:30 p.m.- 5:30p.m. I will have students sign up for thirty minute time slots to share our Innovative Literature Circles project.
April 14-April 18
Sixth graders will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium test during the week of April 14. Students will be completing three sections of the test during the week. I will let you know the exact times and dates as we get closer to the testing window. I strongly encourage having your 6th grader show you the practice asessment. Look over the test with your child. It is very different from the CST tests.

Thursday, April 17
We will be publishing stories using lulu.com. Students that have finished writing, typing, editing and uploading their “remix” story by 4/17 will have the chance to send their story to be published. My class two years ago had a great time creating stories and I know they loved getting a copy printed. Published stories cost seven dollars per child. Please let me know if you are not willing to cover this cost.
Tuesday, April 22
We will be hatching ducks this year. We will partner with Ms. Weber’s first grade class to study the life cycle of ducks. Students that were in my class for 5th grade will have the chance to compare their study of hatching chickens from last year.

Friendly Reminder! The second suggested payment donation for camp of $145 (or any remaining balance) should be submitted by 4/25.
Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2
Our class will be performing the musical “Theseus and the Minotaur.” This 45 minute play will be held in our classroom on Thursday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m. and again on Friday, May 2 at 9:05 a.m. Students will get their parts for the play after we return from spring break. It will be a great addition to our study of ancient Greece.

NEW DATE - SSOAR - Saturday School is May 3 from 8:00-12:15. This is a great way for your child to recover an absence.

NASA STEM Rocket Launching Projects. Students will be completing a rocket launching project. Join us for the rocket launching on Thursday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, May 20 - Friday, May 23
Outdoor Science School. We will leave Acacia at 9:00a.m. on Tuesday, May 20. We will have a wonderful trip at the Irvine Ranch Camp hiking, learning, laughing, swimming, signing and exploring! The buses will return to Acacia on Friday, May 23.
Tuesday, May 27
The end of the year 6th grade swim party has been booked. Las Lomas Verdes has been reserved from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27. Let me know if you are interested in planning this end of year party with other 6th grade parents.
Thursday, May 29
Parents are invited to attend the 6th grade continuation ceremony in the Acacia MPR. This event will start at 8:30 a.m. It usually lasts an hour. Students will receive awards and their certificate of completion during the assembly. Report cards will be given after the event.

Sent 2/28Good Afternoon Parents,Where is the time going? I still can’t believe that we are in our second week of February. 2014 is proving to be a great year so far! Thank you for sending your child to school each day eager to learn. As the second trimester is coming to a close, I wanted to share a few reminders about upcoming activities. Before we know it you will have a junior high student on your hands! WOW!
Friendly Reminder! The first suggested payment donation for camp of $140 should be submitted by tomorrow, February 13th. We are working with the camp to set a date for a parent information night the first week of April. We will review the medical and registration documents for camp and have camp directors available to answer any questions you may have about the site or the program. I will share the date and time as soon as I hear back from Irvine Ranch Camp.
Spring pictures and the 6th grade panoramic photo will be tomorrow. Panorama Class Photo order forms (pink envelope) are available in the office.
Students are welcome to pass out candy or Valentine’s day cards on Friday, February 14 from 2:00-2:30. (Beginning band students can pass out before band at 1:35) Please make sure to provide 32 of each item. Students are not required to participate.
SSOAR - Saturday School is February 22 from 8:00-12:15. This is a great way for your child to recover an absence. Please let the school office know if your child will be attending to make up an absence.
We have two upcoming field trips. The first is a walking field trip on February 26 to Ladera Vista. We will be watching the production “Once on this Island Jr.” We will return to Acacia in time for lunch. This field trip will take the place of our previously scheduled field trip to Hope International University. Our other field trip will be to Fern Drive Elementary on March 11 from 9:00-10:30. We will be taking a district bus to visit the All the Arts Children’s museum to see the exhibit on Ancient Egypt.
The second trimester benchmarks will take place the last week of February. The ELA benchmark will be held 2/25 from 10:15-12:00 and the math benchmark will be 2/27 from 8:00-10:00.
Read Across America Day- Monday, March 3. Please let me know if you would like to share a book, poem, short story or article with our class. At this point in the year the kids might just like hearing someone other than Mrs. Cockerill read! :) Just Kidding. We would really love to have readers anytime between 12:45-2:30 that Monday afternoon. Please let me know if you plan to attend.
All the Arts Grant- I am pleased to share that we have been awarded another grant! We will have the opportunity to work with Mr. Kohl on a ceramics project again this year. Our projects will enhance our learning of Ancient Greece and will be displayed at Open House on May 8.
Report Cards will be sent home with students on Tuesday, March 11. I will be scheduling conferences with students on an individual basis as needed per the district policy on second trimester conferences. Please let me know if you would like to schedule a conference with me to discuss your child’s progress. We will also have the book fair and family picnic this week.
Thank you for your time, patience and support. I wanted you to know that I love our class and look forward to teaching them everyday. I always wish that I could give them more and had more time but I can promise that I am trying my best!
